Best gourmet restaurants we love in the Luberon, near Saignon

Updated: May 13

The Luberon is a dream destination for food lovers. From simple village cafés to refined gourmet restaurants, Provence is filled with memorable places to eat — often in the most unexpected settings. Around Saignon alone, there are dozens of excellent restaurants within a short drive, each offering its own version of Provençal hospitality.

This list gathers our current favourite gourmet restaurants in and around the Luberon. These are not Michelin-starred establishments or formal gastronomic establishments, but places where exceptional food, beautiful settings and warm, attentive service come together to create truly memorable evenings. Thoughtful cooking, seasonal ingredients and atmosphere matter just as much to us as technical perfection.

As Villa Vauvert is based in Saignon, all of these restaurants are easily reached from this part of the Luberon, making them ideal choices for relaxed summer dinners and long evenings in Provence.

Five gourmet restaurants we love in the Luberon, near Saignon

Un Jardin sur le Toit, Saignon

Best for: sunset dinners with panoramic views over the Luberon

Un Jardin sur le Toit is the place to be in summer in Saignon. This beautiful restaurant was built stone by stone, on the ruins of the 12th century castle, le Château de Crugiere, at the summit of Saignon village.

The view from the terrace is magnificent, particularly if you are lucky enough to be there at sunset, and to have a great table.

This is the one restaurant we always warn our guests about as soon as they book: if you want a table with a view, you basically cannot book too early.

The food is elegant, light and delicious. Menus are constructed on seasonal, local produce, and change approximately every 2 months. The 3 course menu is compulsory in the evening, at 60 euros per head.

La Table Agricole Le Tayac, Ménerbes

Best for: leisurely vineyard lunches and wine lovers

A Farm to Table restaurant, set in the Domaine De la Citadelle, an historic winery in Menerbes, and a beautiful setting for an excellent meal. Nicolas Tayac is producing interesting, seasonal and wonderfully fresh food.

Open only at lunch time, and only from Monday to Friday, it is hard to get a table in this tiny restaurant. We recommend that you book early (months in advance) and that you allow time to visit the domaine, enjoy a wine tasting and take a stroll through their extensive wine garden. If you are driving from Saignon, as we do, take the scenic route via Bonnieux and stop in at the perched village of Menerbes for a visit.

Le Domaine du Castellas, Sivergues

Best for: long summer dinners deep in the Provençal countryside

This is really more of an experience than a simple restaurant. The Domaine de Castellas is a beautiful estate is hidden at the end of a country road, in the provencal hinterland. Set in a restored eighteenth century farm, the estate feels exclusive while remaining remarkably relaxed.

Although there is an indoor lounge and restaurant, the main event is definitely the outdoor setting. Large tables, perfect for a group booking, look out over the Luberon countryside. This is one of my favourite restaurants in the area. It has a good local wine list and a set, single menu of authentic Provencal fare, always improved with an interesting twist. I love leaving the table, inspired to recreate dishes at Villa Vauvert...

Le Saint Hubert, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt

Best for: relaxed gourmet lunches and market days

A charming, elegant restaurant, in the Hotel Saint Hubert, in Saint Saturnin. The Franco-American couple behind the restaurant create inventive yet deeply authentic food. They reinterpret classic dishes, giving them new character and surprising flavours.

Having being featured in several national magazines, they are sought after and, therefore, you will need to book ahead. We love to visit on a Tuesday, for lunch to take advantage of the relaxed vibe and the weekly market in Saint Saturnin.

Le Platane, Domaine des Andéols, Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt

Best for: elegant summer evenings and cocktails at sunset

Le Platane is the perfect combination of good food, excellent service and a magnificent setting. Nestled deep in the Luberon countryside, the Domaine des Andéols is a luxury resort with a hotel, bar and restaurant. When it isn't privatised for weddings, the bar and the restaurant, le Platane, are open to the public. Enjoy a cocktail as the sun goes down over the Luberon, and settle in for a delicious meal made with fresh, Provencal produce.
